Our Amicus Briefs
We have filed amicus briefs in several cases to support plaintiffs that are pushing back on the Administration’s unlawful actions.
Transgender Military Ban
The President signed an executive order attempting to ban transgender people from serving in the military. Along with 19 other attorneys general, we filed an amicus brief to support the plaintiffs' case to block this order. We argue that the President action violates the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution; would also weaken our military; harm state emergency and disaster preparedness; deprive the military of experienced and qualified soldiers; and engage in discrimination in violation of state laws.
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
The President is attempting to defund and disband the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, an agency that advocates for consumers and supervises large banks and corporations. Along with 22 other attorneys general, we filed an amicus brief in this case to support the plaintiff's case for blocking the President's action. We argue that disbanding the CFPB will cause states irreparable harm; that state-chartered banks will be unfairly disadvantaged if CFPB can no longer supervise very large banks; and that this will increase the burden on states to protect consumers.
